Anti Social Behaviour – Controlling Alcohol in Diss

Some people are acting in an antisocial manner and causing a nuisance in Diss where we have also seen damage caused to council and business premises and making law abiding residents reluctant to walk through the centre of the town at night. Much of this behaviour is alcohol related and in a move to improve the situation South Norfolk Crime Reduction Partnership in partnership with Diss Town Council have introduced the Designated Public Places Order (DPPO) or Alcohol Control Zone. In this area it would be against the law to continue to drink alcohol after being told not to by a Police Officer or Community Support Officer and gives them powers of confiscation. It is important to note that this order will not prevent people from drinking sensibly in a public place but will increase the powers of the Police to control those whose consumption of alcohol is causing a nuisance.

The order came into force from 28th November 2008. For details of the Alcohol Control Zone contact Nigel Bailey, the Neighbourhood Safety Co-ordinator, South Norfolk Council or Diss Town Council.  If you need to report anti social behaviour phone the Police on the non emergency number 101 or dial 999 if you are witnessing a crime.
